About Us

Glenwood Healthcare, Inc. opened in 1976, providing long-term healthcare to the Shoals area. Originally a 60-bed nursing home, it grew to 90 beds as the needs of the area grew. In 1991, an assisted living facility was built on the hilltop above Glenwood to provide care for those who were still somewhat independent but needed daily attention to some needs; a second assisted living facility was built beside the first in 1993. In 1996, Glenwood constructed a large Rehabilitation Center to offer therapy services for those who had experienced joint replacement, stroke, or other medical events that required short-term rehab services as they recovered. Today, the Rehab division provides services for those recovering from hip fracture, hip or knee replacement, stroke, amputation, heart or lung disease, motor vehicle crashes, non-healing wounds, language/speech disorders, or comprehensive recovery from surgery or other illnessses.

Glenwood Healthcare, Inc. is in its second generation of family ownership and is still owned by the same local family. It is the only rehab, assisted living, and long-term healthcare facility in the region with a full-time Medical Director. It also offers ready access to orthopedic consultants, podiatrists, optometrists, dentists, and other specialty consultants.

Employees at Glenwood consider their work a calling, and turnover is half the state and national averages; some employees have even been with Glenwood since the day the doors were opened. In addition to being a leading member of the business community (Glenwood employs over 200 people in the area), Glenwood has received the prestigious CMS Five Star Rating, which places it among the very best in the nation.

Over the years, Glenwood has been variously known as "Glenwood Convalescent Center" and "Glenwood Rehab and Convalescent Center", but the move to a new corporate name, Glenwood Healthcare, Inc., reflects the total caring approach of our three divisions. We provide a continuum of care that few can offer; we work in tandem with a variety of professionals to create a personal care plan for each patient; and we work daily to be the Shoals’ premier provider of healthcare services. We know that for our residents this is their home, and for our Rehab patients this is their way back home.
